Provide Pastoral Care Issues To Be Addressed
Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace with the addition of simulations and scenarios where the full range of contexts and situations have not been provided in the workplace. The following conditions must be met for this unit:
- use of suitable facilities, equipment, and resources
- modeling of industry operating conditions, including:
- use of verbatims to reflect on own provision of pastoral and spiritual care under the mentoring of a qualified chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker
- interactions with clients from a range of backgrounds under the supervision of a qualified chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker
Provide Pastoral Care Knowledge Evidence
Performance Evidence Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:
- provide pastoral and spiritual support to three people or community groups
- prepare a Pastoral and Spiritual Care Report in collaboration with supervising chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker
- perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of 100 hours of work in at least one organization or community setting.
Knowledge Evidence Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:
- pastoral and spiritual care as a holistic, person-centered approach to care
- professional associations and coordinating authorities for pastoral care and spiritual services
- research tools and techniques
- analysis and interpretation processes
- types of specialized information sources and how to locate them
- challenges, issues, and milestones relating to different life stages organizational policies and procedures for:
- provision of pastoral and spiritual support
- escalation of issues
- review of the provision of support
- documentation
- maintenance of records.
Elements and Performance Criteria
2. Provide individual and community support
2.1. Establish a trusting and respectful interpersonal relationship with the person.
2.2. Provide an opportunity for the person to explore and discuss significant life events and attitudes.
2.3. Provide meaningful rituals, symbols, and actions relevant to the person and their rights and needs.
2.4. Provide support to significant others including family members and carers.
2.5. Collaborate with the person’s support networks, community or faith group for ongoing involvement and support.
2.6. Assist other carers and community members to understand the role of pastoral and spiritual care workers.
2.7. Engage in pastoral, ethical, and spiritual discussions with people and community groups.
2.8. Provide pastoral and spiritual support in accordance with organizational policies and procedures and ethical and moral guidelines.
2.9. Identify issues beyond the scope of the role and escalate and refer according to organizational policies and procedures.
3. Review and reflect on pastoral and spiritual care.
3.1. Review the provision of support according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
3.2. Evaluate the need for additional support and discuss it with a supervisor.
3.3. Reflect on your own performance and identify ways to improve your own practice.
4. Participate in professional supervision
4.1. Give and receive feedback constructively and positively during supervision.
4.2. Act on feedback in collaboration with supervisor and mentor.
4.3. Seek advice on potential areas for personal and professional development.
5. Maintain records.
5.1. Document a pastoral and spiritual care report according to organizational policies and procedures.

Provide Pastoral Care Learning Options

- access to facilities, equipment, and resources that reflect real working conditions and model industry operating conditions and contingencies
- access to organizational standards, policies, and procedures
- opportunities for engagement with people from a range of backgrounds under the supervision of a qualified chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker.
Students complete the subject Provide Pastoral Care utilizing the unit “CHCPAS002 Provide pastoral and spiritual care” through our “Online Training Portal” while evidence of practical experience will be applied in the context of the local church The portal provides the student with an interactive and comprehensive learning and training section. Various assignments are presented which are designed to teach and develop and determine competency in the units. Detailed instructions and access are provided to students by VIC as they enter the unit. s they enter the unit.
