Cameos of Christ
In this study Cameos of Christ we will see Christ throughout the Bible In the life of Jesus, we can identify many remarkable discoveries. What a fascinating person he was in his incarnation when he walked here on earth among his people. One particular verse in the gospel of Mark reveals the incredible excitement he aroused in the crowds of people who followed him -- As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him (Mark 9:15).
What was the background of this incident? Jesus had just come down from Mount Tabor where he had been transfigured (Mark 9:1-9).
There is no other explanation for the wonder of the people. Jesus must have been trailing clouds of heaven’s glory! Something of his experience still clung to him. He still emanated the power and the presence of God to such an extent that the people marvelled at it.
There were many times the disciples viewed him with awe. They were amazed at Jesus power in rebuking the storm on the Sea of Galilee and they cried out -- ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!’ (Matthew 8:27)
More on Cameos of Christ
Cameos of Christ presents a refreshing view of Jesus. Those who have studied the Bible know who he is. He is the Word of God become flesh, the One and Only Son who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John1:14) He is the Lamb of God who takes away our sins and brings us into eternal life. If we receive him we know we have the right to become children of God (John 1:12-13).
He is the great teacher who taught with the authority received from his Father. He knew how to reach ordinary people; how to explain God to them. They were fascinated by his wisdom (Matthew 22:15-22).
He describes himself as the Shepherd of his people, and as the Gate through which they must enter into eternal life (John 10:7-9); as the Light of the world (8:12) and the Bread which came down from heaven (6:35-40).
He is all these things and more. He was born holy and he remained without sin throughout his life and ministry thus becoming the perfect sacrifice for our sin. He was always obedient and submissive to his Father -- ‘The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him’ (John 8:29).
He was anointed to heal the sick and to set free those who were bound (Isaiah 61:1-3) and he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed in any way by Satan, for God was with him (Acts 10:38).
He was full of compassion and pity for the multitude (Matthew 9:35-36) yet stern with those who led the people astray with their onerous laws (23:1-36).
He was courageous in the face of a terrible death knowing his Father would not leave him or forsake him but raise him up again in victory (Psalm 16:8-10).
Right through the Old Testament this same Jesus appears. Time and time again, in prophecy and type his portrait stands out in bold and dazzling relief, showing convincing proof that Jesus is truly the Son of the Living God.
Before we begin exploring the identity of Jesus may I humbly suggest to those who are still seeking the truth: ‘Take heed to the wise words of Jeremiah the prophet’--
This is what the Lord says, ‘Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercises kindness justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
