Vision Colleges study to be approvedDistance education Bible Studies!  Who should study the Bible? How can we study?  Distance education bible college and local church bible colleges have become a primary solution in today’s busy world for meeting the need to study God’s word.

While there are many who would like to know more and even study the Bible, there is often a sense that “doing bible college” is to prepare for ministry, some people are put off by that notion.

While there is some truth in the idea that bible college is for ministers it is only a partial truth.  Indeed if anyone wants to be involved in the ministry they should be qualified.  The ministry of the word of God is the highest calling a man or woman can have.

However, the truth is that the vast majority of Bible college students, from almost, if not every seminary or Bible college or theological university do not enter into or stay in ministry.  In fact, many graduates find their studies and degrees in theology or Christian ministry to be invaluable in everyday life, and in their work, especially in social welfare or related fields.  The truths they learn support their life and career.

For many others, there is the personal benefit of knowing the Word of God from a more structured method that enhances their relationship with God and as a result our relationship with one another

Consider this although directly addressing Timothy, Paul makes two points in his second epistle

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. (2 Timothy 2:15-16 NKJV)

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV)

A proper understanding of the Bible brings salvation, life, vitality, healing, freedom, peace, personal confidence – and so much more.  It develops our relationship with God and each other.  In fact, it is difficult to think of a good human endeavour that does not benefit from the proper study of the word.

The study of God’s word is the responsibility of every Christian.  We do not all need to study to the same level, for the same purpose with the same motivation – but study we must.  Our community depends on it.
